Neil Patrick Harris --- The Oscars and Beyond

Is Neil Patrick Harris Going to Make the Best Dressed List?

I don't know about you, but that tuxedo worn by Neil Patrick Harris last night was simply... wait for it.. AWESOME! Can I get a round of high-fives and bumps? The long-time childhood actor turned adult mega star was simply in high form last night, cracking jokes, dancing and singing in a superb (and slightly raunchy,) opening act for the 2010 Oscars. In case you guys missed it last night, here's a link to the opening act featuring Neil Patrick Harris and some scantily clad feather dancers. (Are they supposed to be reminiscent of ostriches or was that just me who thought they looked like large flightless birds?  Probably just me.)

In This Day and Age

Fellow Gemini, (I'm a twin, too,) Neil Patrick Harris was born on June 15th, 1973.  Many remember him from his childhood break-out series, Doogie Howser, MD.  Unlike many childhood actors, though, he has only gained steam since the end of his first hit television show in 1989.  After Doogie Howser, MD he went on to do movies, commercials, more hit television shows, Broadway, and awards ceremonies.  Versatility and a wicked sense of humor have kept Neil Patrick Harris in business and on the screen for over three decades, now.

Famously Out

In 2006 Neil Patrick Harris became a beacon, (albeit unwillingly,) for homosexuals when he came out after his relationship with actor David Burtka  was ousted.  In an exclusive PEOPLE interview he told America and the world:

"The public eye has always been kind to me, and until recently I have been able to live a pretty normal life. Now it seems there is speculation and interest in my private life and relationships.

So, rather than ignore those who choose to publish their opinions without actually talking to me, I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love."

I think part of NPH's attraction can be attributed to his openness and enthusiasm to living life to the fullest.  In the following clip he discusses his public coming out with Ellen.

Working with Joss Whedon

Turns out, Neil Patrick Harris will be coming back for more in an episode of the popular hit show "Glee," directed by Joss Whedon.  Some of you may recognize the connection, they've worked together before in a musical web series called Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.  Exciting stuff, Joss Whedon and Neil Patrick Harris working together on "Glee" makes me want to revisit the show which I stopped watching after a few episodes.

How I Met Your Mother

Neil Patrick Harris plays a womanizing, scotch guzzling, well-dressed Barney Stinson on the hit show: "How I Met Your Mother" which airs on CBS. If you've never seen the show before, it's offered on Netflix and is definitely well-worth checking out. The following clip is the "Best of Barney," definitely... legen-wait-for-it-dary...

Technologically Savvy

For those of you who just can't get enough of the awesomely legendary Neil Patrick Harris, now, you can follow him on Twitter. That's right, the famous actor writes his own updates on a verified Twitter account for the world to see. I guess acting, writing, performance art, (he's a practicing magician,) and singing / dancing aren't enough for the suit-strong actor.  I, for one, am definitely going to start following him.  I can't wait to see if he works again with Joss Whedon, in the future, or what his next big appearance will be.  Though it's going to be a little hard to top his 2010 Oscars number, I'm sure he'll rise to the occasion.

I had no idea NPH was gay or that he sang and danced until his recent stint as a guest judge on American Idol.

Nemingha: Thanks for taking the time to read and comment, I really appreciate it. I didn't have a chance to catch his guest host appearance on American Idol, but I heard it was fantastic. Thanks!

vocalcoach: I adore him, too! (Er... obviously, since I wrote this hub about him...) It's so wonderful to see a young man who is active in so many different aspects of show business, still maintain a sense of reality and steadiness. I really *wish* he had more time to devote to tweeting, you'll find that he doesn't update too often, (in fact, I forgot I was following him at the time of publishing Tarra and Bella, so I didn't admit fully to how many celebrities I'm following,) but when he does it's always worth the wait! Thanks for taking the time out to read and comment, I really appreciate it! And again, welcome to Hub Pages!
